  • It thrives particularly well when grown in buckets.
  • Grain spawn should not be utilized for log inoculation.
  • It’s important to note that this is not a mushroom grow kit.
  • To produce mushrooms, blue oyster grain spawn must be combined with a substrate.

Upon receiving your spawn:

Enviromental Parameters

Temperature 7-24°C
Humidity (Phase 1: Primordia) 95-100%
Humidity (Phase 2: Fruitbody) 85-95%
CO2 Sensitivity (Phase 1: Primordia) <1,000 ppm
CO2 Sensitivity (Phase 2: Fruitbody) <1,000 ppm
  • Primordia refers to the initial discernible phase of fruitbody formation, commonly known as “baby mushrooms” or “mushroom pins.”
  • Fruitbody represents the matured state of a mushroom, serving as the reproductive structure responsible for spore production.
  • CO2 sensitivity refers to the mushroom’s responsiveness to carbon dioxide levels. Elevated CO2 can lead to reduced yields, elongated and thin stems, undersized caps, or growth cessation.

Cultivating indoors:

Blue oyster mushrooms grain spawn can be blended into substrates that have been either steam sterilized, or cold lime pasteurized. These substrates can include hardwood sawdust, straw, coffee grounds, and various others.

Please keep in mind that before you can initiate the fruiting process, it is essential to combine the grain spawn with a bulk substrate. If you are new to mushroom cultivation, we suggest acquiring a book on the subject for guidance.

Cultivating outdoors:

To cultivate blue oyster mushrooms, you can distribute the oyster spawn over chopped straw or wood chips, as demonstrated in the video provided below. Creating outdoor beds using this method is considered one of the simplest approaches to grow oyster mushrooms.

Storage:

If you do not intend to utilize the spawn immediately, it is possible to refrigerate it for a duration of up to 4 months.

Cautions and Considerations:

Please note: Unlike our ready-to-fruit grow kits and plug spawn, Grain Spawn does not come with instructions. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with proper mushroom cultivation, lab, and sterile technique before ordering.

Before consuming home-grown mushrooms, it is important to cook them thoroughly with heat. If you are trying this particular species for the first time, it is recommended to begin with a small portion to assess for any potential allergies, even if the mushrooms have been cooked.

Value System:

Our Value System guides the design of each strain. When we collect a species from the wild and initiate the first spore germination or tissue-culture/clone, we designate its age as T-0. Subsequent transfers of the original culture from one matrix to the next are then labeled in increments of T-1, T-2, and so forth. This library tries to maintain strains closest to their origins or closest to their peak fruiting potentials.
